What Morgan does at soccer practice

You gotta love four year-olds!!

What I WISH Morgan would do at soccer practice...

It's Official

Today is Morgan's first official day of preschool! You may remember in June when I posted pictures of her moving up to the pre-k classroom at daycare. She is now officially on the roles as a student in the county (which also means a reduced fee at daycare....whew!). Here's our preschooler, ready for her first day. And yeah, I know her shoes are on the wrong feet...that's just how she rolls!

Our Soccer Gal

Today was Morgan's first day of soccer! We decided that this might be a way for her to learn to make some new friends as well as run off some of her (ever increasing) energy. She plays on a "team" but for the under 6 age group there aren't games, in the traditional sense. They spend the first 30 minutes working on basic skills and the last 30 minutes playing some 3-on-3. What they should really call the last part of practics is "cyclone soccer" where all of the children run at the ball willy-nilly. It was cute!

Morgan didn't really want to participate this morning. She hugged her Daddy's leg most of the practice and had to be coaxed off his leg with a juice box. She did get to kick the ball some (see video below). I am hopeful that Monday she will feel a little more comfortable and she'll participate more. She won't have Daddy's leg to hug during practice at least!

Here she is all decked out in her soccer equipment. A friend let her borrow the shin guards and shoes. Her shoes are too big so we'll need to get her a pair, but the shin guards will work out great!

At the soccer field, she insisted on sitting on Daddy's lap during stretch warm-up.

She got to be the goalie for a series, but wasn't too sure about it.

Finally toward the end of practice she started to have fun.
We'll keep you updated as our future striker (or sweeper like her Big DB) begins her soccer career. Stay tuned!

Morgan's Boyfriend

For the past few months Morgan has been talking alot about Coen, a little boy from her class at day care. Apparently she and Coen are inseparable when at school. The teachers giggle about them, telling me that Coen is Morgan's boyfriend. Coen's mom also says that Coen talks a lot about Morgan and she was the only girl he cared about coming to his birthday party, which was Sunday.

When Morgan arrived at the party, Coen gave her a hug AND a kiss! Patrick just about fainted :) They rode a lot of rides together, and during the few times where Coen would be doing something different Morgan was always looking to see where he was. Here they are riding the tea cup ride at Valley Worlds of Fun in Fairmont.

One of the rides Morgan would NOT go on with Coen was the bumper boats. She didn't want to get her pretty dress wet (those are her words). While Coen was in the water, Morgan tried her hand at putt-putt golf for the first time.

Morgan was very excited to give Coen his gifts, which he had offered to let her help him open. I thought that was awfully sweet of him!

I think Morgan had a really fun time at the party and was already looking forward to seeing Coen at school on Monday.

Pool Party Fun

Over the weekend Morgan got to attend a birthday party for her friend, Carina, at the Grafton pool. Our little water baby was thrilled to be able to go swimming, both in the "castle" (baby) pool and in the big pool with her Daddy. She is becoming less and less afraid of the water. This time she repeatedly put her head under the water and was jumping off the side of the pool with reckless abandon. It is my goal to find more time for her to spend in the pool the remainder of the year since we have a membership to the WVU student rec center, which has an indoor pool. Hopefully we'll have many more fun times at the pool. Morgan will definitely be taking swim lessons next summer.

A Mother Knows....or maybe I am just paranoid

Over the past month I have noticed that Morgan has been waking up in our bed on 99% of the mornings. I even made a comment about this today to my mother. We do NOT want Morgan to get into the habit of sleeping with us. She never did it as an infant and I am not inclined to share any more of my bed with anyone. Not to mention sleeping with Morgan is like sleeping with an angry octopus. Yeah, it's that bad.

This evening Patrick commented that he couldn't believe that Morgan was still awake, at 9:30. It's not unusual for Morgan to be up well past bedtime, but she normally plays quietly in her bed. She is not allowed to get out of her bed, but we don't force her to lay there bored. I told Patrick I had a theory about why she stays up late (and I was very much joking). My theory is that Morgan fakes like she is asleep when we check on her but is actually staying awake until we go to sleep so she can sneak into our bed.

Fast foward 30 minutes.

We were laying in bed watching the end of NCIS (yes, it's the only thing we ever watch. Yes, we can find it on any channel at any time of the day. Yes, we DVR it too. But that's not part of this story, so please focus!). All of a sudden Patrick sits straight up in bed. He was staring out the door very intently. I kept looking at him, and he was starting to freak me out. I'm a bit of a scardy-cat at night. He quietly gets up from the bed and tiptoes to the door. All of a sudden I hear a crash of toys and see Patrick heading down the hallway to Morgan's room.

I can hear him talking to her, then he starts laughing and comes back into the room. He said Morgan was vaulting back into the bed and when he got there she said "Daddy, did you see my eye? Did you see me peeking through the house?" Patrick said yes he did. Her response was "I was peeking to see if you were asleep so I could get in bed with you!" That was funny in it's own right, but then I realized that "the house" did not mean OUR house. It actually meant...

The scene of the crime...

She was peeking through her doll house's window! If you look at the next picture, you will see that the above window has a direct view into our bedroom (Patrick is laying on our bed). This vantage point affords her a view into our room while using the actual doll house to hide her body.
Her undoing?
Yep, her feather boa. Patrick said he would not have even noticed if he hadn't seen the pink feather boa flitting around in the hallway. At first he thought the feathers were being blown around by the air conditioning, but then he realized that couldn't be since there isn't a vent in the hallway.
So, it turns out that I am NOT paranoid. That little turkey HAS been spying on us, checking for the right moment to sneak into our bed. She had Patrick and I laughing so hard I was brought to tears. You never know what our spunky gal will do next!

Another birthday?

Morgan was excited to return back to school today after a second 2-week hiatus. She missed all of her friends, especially Coen, who she says is her boyfriend (yes, Patrick is already up in arms). Coen's mom related the following to me this morning:

When I dropped Coen off this morning, he immediately went to play with Morgan and asked her if she was coming to his (birthday) party. She said yes and he told her that she could help him open his presents. Morgan said, “that’s ok, I am having another birthday party soon and will have more of my own presents”!

I have tried, and tried, and TRIED to get Morgan to understand that she will not have another birthday for a very long time, and that there would be no more presents to open until Christmas. Apparently the message hasn't sunk in yet. :)
